crazy engines

Post by renthal_198_mx »

i'm looking for something crazy to do to my MX-3, i've been looking around for something different as far as engines go, i was wondering if a miata engine would work in the car, or where i could get a four cylinder engine with a stock turbo and ecu to run it. I'm not affrasid to try new things, i'm also considering, a rear whell drive set up. where theres a will theres a way! any suggestions would be greatly appriciated, renthal_198_mx@hotmail.com

The first thing I was going to say is that the Miata is a rear wheel drive, so a Miata engine wouldn't fit, but you seem to really want to do some radiacal mods. If your really looking to make something different. Go to Miata.net and search for their V8/Monster Miata conversion. This way you can go rear wheel drive and also add a V8 small block at the some time. I could only imagine the looks and performance you'd get from that. I for one would shy away from something as involved as this, but I wish you luck and keep us posted on what you decide to do. Good Luck.
Owner of 7 different cars, 5 being convertibles. 1990 Miata is one of my summer fun cars. I enjoy that car so much, I thought owning a MX3 would be fun also. Drive with your top open or top down. See my car web site at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/816145

If you wanna convert it to rear-drive, why not keep it Mazda & go with a 13B Turbo??

Good luck!

Dont wast your time trying to make it RWD. just go buy a miata then to get RWD. Just make it AWD we have a guy on here that finely did it! and screw 4banger get a KL-ZE 200hp v6.

a KLZE is not the be-all-end-all for the Mx-3, IMO the ultimate power setup for an mx-3 is a BPT. And I don't think you can tranfer over the 4cyl AWD setup on a V6

If you want a stock turbo setup, putting in the turbo 1.8L 4cyl out of a turbo 323 GTX/GTR drops right in I believe. Just need the proper ECU (and some rewiring if you have a 94+ RS)

There's a guy who's making a RWD, Mx-3, check out the massive modifications here:

AS you can see, there's not much left to the Mx-3

FYI, a 13B Turbo is reference to the Rx-7 motor, The 13B is the 2-rotor motor found in most Rx-7's, they had an option for a turbo.

If i'm not mistaken (which I could be) they are the exact same engine (B6), but they are mounted differently since the mx is fwd and the miata is rwd. The transmissions are also different, but similar. Right now i'm running on a mx3 clutch and miata lightweight flyweel, and i'm sure quite a few other people are too.

you can do anything you want to. AWD is very involved, but not as much as most origionally thought. if you dont mind cutting the hell out of the car then go RWD. thats the only reasion i went AWD. is because the AWD was easier. still alot of F***ing work, but i love it. my dad wanted me to go RWD with a Ford 4.6L all aluminum GT motor, it would have been sweet and i definatly thought about it but it ruins the whole Import thing. i have however drempt of a AWD with a KLZE. it could be done with an all Subi drive train, and a custom bellhousing to mate the trans to the KL. that would be sweet as hell. and if you went with a STI trans you could get a 6speed. its all in what you are looking for and what you want and are willing to do. and it all takes alot of research unless you pay someone else to do it.

and FYI the miata motor will swap rite over. you just have to move some of the coolent fittings around
