Remote start. NEED HELP!!

Post by DoctorP »

I bought a ProStart remote starter from Crappy Tire the other day and have installed it in my truck. However it wont start. It will fire up than die right away. I have gone over everything and it all checks out so I am wondering if my OEM anti theft system is screwing me up. Does anyone know anything about this??? If so how do I go about fixing it?

Thanks

Scott

First off, what kind of truck and what year? And most of the time when the car or truck does not start and stay running it could be security or wrong tach signal. I will tell you what to do once you let me know what kind of truck and what year?

thanks

99 chev s 10 4.3 litre automatic. I do believe the tach signal is good as it does make an attempt to start. I have both ignition wires hooked up but still no go. Thanks for the quick reply

Your truck likely has an electronic immobilizer installed from the factory. This is to kill the engine if someone breaks in and hot-wires the truck without using the key...You need to disable this unit or find some sort of a bypass module (if they make one) My 96 grand cherokee is the same. I just braught it in to a stereo shop that does alarms and remote starts and they fixed me up in 20 minutes. I reccomend you do the same to avoid a headache.....

u have the GM Passlock 2 system in your truck. U need a bypass module to get it to stay started.

the part I have used is a DEI module 555L. Usually available at smaller custom shops, or just try future shop or best buy. Pretty easy to install too if you can read, and have the remote start in already. Probably looking at around $60 for the part though.....

Ok all is well now. Got the bypass installed and everything is good. Wired up one door lock today in between coats of paint at work. I will do the other one next week. Thanks for all the input.
