I'm in Korea right now as an English teacher.....I picked up a 1994 Mazda AZ-3 with about 110,000 km for 1,000,000 won which is equivalent to about $1000 US dollars. I'm getting a bit into the car and it definitely needs some work here and there.

First,
I went ahead and replaced the valve cover gasket as it was leaking oil.

Second,
I had to replace the entire exhaust system because the header was cracked from being bottomed out quite a few times.

Third,
Flushed out the oil and now the car seems to be running decently.


My question is....I believe this car has a bit of electrical problems. Nothing severe, but everytime I turn the steering to hard lock, the engine sputters a bit.

I am also interested in the engine types for this car and am very confused on which one I have. I believe it is a 4cyl. 16 valve model but I just want to know what are all the engine types for this car.

Hi there and welcome!

The steering doesn't sound electrical, your probably loading up the power steering pump when it goes full lock so putting increased load on the engine.

The car was released worldwide under varying names and with different configurations and engines. I believe the Autozams were the New Zealand release and only had the four cylinder model, but exactly which engine I don't know.

You'll find a lot of info on the site and I'm sure you'll get your questions answered ok. Try the search feature - I'd bet what your after is on here somewhere.

the autozams were j-spec..., we just get them as used imports
i think your engine is the 1.5, same as a Mazda 323/Familia, B5 perhaps?
