Speaker Mounts

Post by acespdz »

I just Bought 6.5" speakers for my 94 MX3, I tried installing the speakers but the holes don't line up. Is there a special mounting bracket or something that will help otherwise I have to drill new holes or customize it which I don't want to do.. I just wanted newer better speakers because my car had stock speakers. any help would be great... THANKS

I just drilled the new holes when putting my 6.5's in. The Mazda factory spkrs only had the 3 equally spaced mounting holes and most aftermarket replacement speakers (5.25" and 6.5") have 4 equally spaced holes for mounting. Not aware of an adaptor that would give ya the 4-to-3 hole adaptation. Maybe someone else is aware on that...

if you buy alpine speakers then they usually come with a bracket that accomadates for the factory mazda screw holes. Read the sticky post to find out how to mount them.

You can purchase speaker adapters but what i did is i just ben the metal part on the speaker (the part that goes around the speaker) because it was folded over i just got it flate and it was big enough to make a 3rd hole.

Keep in mind you might have to add a spacer bracket as 6.5 inch speakers are usually deeper than 5.25 inch, otherwise the windows might hit the speaker magnets.

Well I installed Rockford 6.5" speakers, The front ones were easy I just drilled new holes into the door and bingo, but the back ones were a little harder because they wouldnt fit in the space because the seat belt thing was in the way so i forced them in and they work nice.

You can buy the adapters on ebay, they will line up with the stock 3 holes.
