ignition messed...can i get tranny into neutral another way?

my car was stolen recently but i got it back with a messed ignition. I think they screwed something up because the day I got it back it worked but then yesterday the car just wouldnt turn over. My car at the moment is parked on the street and I want to push it into the driveway. I tried just clicking the ignition forward to let me put it in neutral but no dice. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried sliding the little switch next to the selector, then shifting it into neutral? Other than that, try rocking the car, maybe stuff is just outta sync....., swearing alot helps too!

I slide the switch thing and worked perfectly. I didnt even know what that was there for, good to know. Thanks a lot for the help, very much appreciated!
