Well, the smell of gas is still present on the car. Just bought a new gas cap as a cheap trial and error fix. No luck (as you can tell cuz im posting again). The smell is from that immediate area. I filled the tank up to the very top (since it was 0.98 here in Barrie) and i saw gas run down the hose and slowly drip from my springs.
So My question is, can i just replace the main filler hose?...I was told u had to buy the whole unit with the other hoses.
and does having that leak affect performance? I have 37 psi fuel pressure at the rails, but i dont get the hiss from the gas cap when i remove it.
thanks guys.

um replace the seal on the fuelpump itself..open the cover and if its clean but ahs dirt around the areas you goit a leak there..i just fixed my moms escort gt (sam as us) and the same thing was happening..turned out to be the seal.. the smell originates near the filer cap..wont go inside the car because it has a rubber seal but the gas seal is what leaks most of the time after a few years.

let's see
Well, I took off the cover (covering myself in gas from the one line....i know i know, u dont need to say anything). So anyway, I pulled up the seal and half of the ring was rusty. The seal itself is in good shape. I got a new seal anyway and some gasket seal to fill the imperfections on the actual tank. I cleared away the excess rust, applied the seal and new gasket and put the cover back on. I only went around town so I cant say for sure if its cured anything. However, I can hear my pump louder now. I get a verly light hiss when I take the gas cap off (never got any before).
Update
Just an update... gas smell isnt as imminent now, and I cleared my diagnostics after doing a tune up and my Code 17 & 24 dissapeared. Good cuz I didnt want to replace the O2's. anyway, when I commute to school I'll see if the gas smell dissapears.

Your O2 code should come back after some driving if they really need to be replaced so don't think that they are completely gone now. The gas tank fix shouldn't have done anything to help the O2s.
