FM Modulator

Post by GregoryChristian »

I just recently installled a DVD player into my Mx-3 and had to use a FM modulator for the sound to come through my speakers and sub but I am also hearing a whining/whistling Engine noise when accelerating and decelarating ....is this because of an improper ground or kinked wires ?

many times if you run the RCA cables along the same side of the car you ran the power wires, you will get engine noise. If that's not the case, it's probably a ground.

its called a ground loop. you can do 1 of 2 things:

re-ground all of your electrical equipment in the car to 1 ground point via a distribution block

or

buy a ground loop isolator from radioshack

get a aftermarket cd player with AUX in so you can just plug it in. Some of the cheaper decks are with sony, jvc, and panasonic. Or higher end Eclipses or Clarions.

or try grounding your CDplayer, dvd player and fm modulator to a flat piece of steel in the kick panel(scrap of so it's bare metal).

By the way - where is the screen?
