How to remove CV end bolt

Post by bmwm3guy »

OK here's my problem, taking off a CV end bolt is normally easy... with the motor in the car. I dont have a motor in this car, and we never loosened the bolts because they were pretty seized...

now Im leaving for Virginia Beach on thursday morning and I busted my passenger side axel while taking an LS-Vtec Integra the other day

Im already lined up for a sweet deal on some high hp axels however I dont have the time or money right now. So I gotta take the Axels off my parts car with no motor and my question is:

How do you stop the axel from turning and turning while trying to force the end bolt off???

OOoo, sounds like a pain in the a--. I'd try and grip the axle with a chanel lock plier and see if it will hold it still while the impact wrench does it's job. I'd bet it will not though... Sorry, that is all I can think of. If you are trying to looen it with a breaker bar your in big trouble. Chanel locks will not hold it against the constant pressure of a breaker bar, but might against a impact wrench.

thanks man... one thing I thought of, is to put my brake disc back on, and jam something in the vents and pry with the breakerbar and a pipe...

i dont really care about the discs anyways... i NEED that axel :?

If you have an extra nut for the axle you can just use an angle grinder to get the old nut off. Just be careful.

Kinda like this

As of July 2011 the MX3 has been retired and sold.

yeah, but when you hit the axle with the grinder you can't use it any more...

Use a propane torch to heat up the nut.. being careful not to hit the axle at the same time.. will be a bit tricky.. but if you can get the nut hot enough it will expand a bit and break free of the axle threads. Hope this helps.
