Question about Transmissions With KLZE

Post by Damious »

hello everyone,

im just curious about the KLZE swap. i love the idea of all that power, but im just wondering, alot of ppl simply just roast there tires in first gear... and have pretty high RPM on the highway.

I know how transmissions work, however, i dont know what exactly a final drive ratio or gear ratio is. but i was wondering if there were any alternitives to the MX-3's Trannie, the Mx-6's has a final drive ratio i believe... but what exactly does that mean? more play in each gear? a lower rpm on the highway?

im not a huge drag person, so i would like a trannie that feels rightly placed with the ZE, not just a really really short 1.

didn't the car that the ZE originally came in have a manual trannie? how come no one ever puts those in?

hope u guys can answer my questions and thanx for reading.

Peace

i had heard the mx6 tranny goes to 140.. aka longer gear. Basically thats it. People either use that or the k8. k8 is shorter gear

The final drive on the probe/mx3 is 4.39 and on the mx6/626 is 4.11
If your worried about highway driving and roasting your tires, go with the MX6/626 trannys

EDIT: Infact, even for racing the MX6 and 626 trannys are the best

By the sounds of it, your trying to do your research and have stumbled upon a commonality. I believe the the 626/MX6 would give you a more appropriate gearing than the MX3. Your probably in the over 30 crowd so smoking the tires isn't really your thing, me neither. I've been giving that some consideration for next winters project. The MX3's TX is geared a liitle too short and I too would like to see lower rpms at highway speeds. I've seen that somewhere (Georgia) I believe that there's a place to source JDM TX's that come with limited slip. I'm going to get more into it this fall. I think the use of the MX3 TX was simply cost savings and conveniance.

definitely go with the 4.11 final drive, it is better suited for the ZE.

I firmly believe it is better for accel in the 1/4 as wel since it keeps the car in its powerband longer

r there any codes on it that differ from the Mx-3's that i should know about? i would hate to spend money just to get the exact same transmission

MX6 transmission all the way. I was very pleased when I put one in my probe and I think I've got one lined up to put on my MX3 this weekend. The longer first gear is great when you have that extra power.

the amount of torque that the ZE has makes the lower final drive a moot point.

I have the MX6 tranny in it and let me tell you it is far from slow, and on the highway at 130kmh, im revving about 3900RPM
