short shifter seems different than stock HELP

Post by punkindrublic »

I just bought a short shifter off ebay and upon looking at it, it seems to be different than the stock shifter !!!!
http://www.cosmoracing.com/productinfo. ... 15&pid=858
in the picture u can see that the very bottom its almost like a ball, where as the stock shifter is more like a cylinder, am i right ??? will there be any problems with this ?? has anyone bought one of these as well ???
also is there supposed to be bushing in the those holes or is it just the bolt that goes through there ??

Thanks For any help guys !!!!!!!!!

Your right it is different. The ball part is what bolts to the linkage. If your stock bushings aren't ate up then just use them if your shifter didn't come with any. Just put your bushings in the holes run your bolt through the linkage and shifter and your set. I have a 92 and I assume they are all the same... If you havn't done it when you pull your trim off around the shifter there is a rubber ring around the shifter you pull off and a spring holds the old shifter in. Push the short shifter through the floor board bolt everything up and enjoy. I have an OBX and it shortened the throw about 30 percent.

Unless your car is in mint shape you WILL have to buy new bushings. I figured i'd take the easy way out and reuse mine, but they were so rusted in there I couldnt get em out. As far as fitment, that'll work, looks kinda like mine.

I had to cut one coil outta the spring, but its still a b-otch to get in. Mine didn't have the o-rings(slightly different design) but I guess if they wont fit take em off. My shifter assembly has tabs to hold it from falling thruogh the floor, but I heard here numerous times that they tend to rot off. Most people I have read about just drilled some holes in the base and bolted it in. Give it a shot. I'm not sure on all the details, but you could try a seach for that. I believe the last time I saw it was in the General mx-3 section, not sure though. Hope this helps, good luck
