Engine Swap
I have a 93 MX-3 I want to do an engine swap but not quite sure go with any suggestions??? If so, I'd really appreciate it. At the moment I have the 4-cylinder. I have been told the best thing to do is just buy a new MX-3 with 6-cylinder, but I really love my car. Can someone please give me some suggestions?
Well you have 3 common/popular routes.
You have the BP- which is a 1.8 litre DOHC engine producing i think 130 hp/125 tq. Fairly simple swap.
You have the BpT- Which is the same engine being a 1.8 litre DOHC Turbo Producing 180hp( correct me if im wrong) and 180 tq. Since its based off of the bp block the swap is still fairly simple but then the turbo can require more parts ex(intercooler and piping, fuel control etc. etc.)
Then you have the B6T which is a 1.6 litre DOHC Turbo Producing 132 hp/132tq. I have done this swap myself with no prior knowledge of engine swapping besides the guide in the FAQ section and i did it in 3 days.
This swap is fairly simple as well but then again you also need more parts (see BpT)
Then comes the availibility.
The BP Came in 91-94 mazda proteges as well as 91-94 escorts, as well as some others, some people have found good low mileage Bp's for around $400.
The BpT you cannot find stateside/Canada you have to find someone who imports them. And the engine it self can cost upwards of $1,000
The B6t came in 88-89 mazda 323 gt/gtx or the 91-94 mercury capri xr2, Though not as common as some would like still are fairly cheap i bought one of mine for $200 and another for $400.
But the best thing to do would go into the 4 cylinder FAQ section and read up on the swaps and decide whats best for yourself.
