sticky clutch

Post by bigcg34 »

About a week ago my clutch pedel started sticking all the way down to the floor, only in 1st and reverse when accelerating, or if I hold the pedal down to long. I can still shift, I just have to kick up the pedal (PITA), I assume I have to get a clutch kit, but any ideas of a cheaper fix?
thanks

test results in, so when I push the clutch in I can see the part in the engine bay on the transmission go back to the normal position I'm losing pressure somewhere but there is no sign of any leaks in the clutch lines. Any idea of what could be the issue?
Thanks

If bleeding the system doesn't improve things, could be a prob with your clutch release cylinder (aka clutch slave cylinder) or the clutch master cyl. Usually replacement rather than rebuild is the easiest fix. I'd suspect a wornout slave cylinder 1st. Pages H-8 thru H-15 of the online shop manual via MX-3.com home page link should provide the relevant diags of this stuff. I just picked up a brand new bendix replacement clutch mstr. cyl & Raybestos slave cyl on ebay for a total of <$50 USD shipped. Mine aren't worn out yet but am pushing 140K miles on orig equip so figured replacement while putting in SS clutch line was wise. Best prices I found elswhere on the Web were ~$100 for both cylinders shipped. Still not too bad.
