car start issue

Post by mpertz »

I bought a 1992 v6 mx3 and it was purchased from a scapyard, the car is in good condition overall, only 27,000 km, but I have trouble starting the car. the engine crancks, the spark plugs spark and theres lots of new gas. the car is original, nothing has been changed. The first thing I can think of is it being a kill switch problem or some kind of anti theft problem or another thing it can be is the gas pump becuase it does not make any sound when u turn the ignition. If anyone has any idea what I can attempt to do I'd appreciate it. I don't have much expearence with mazda.

Thanks

I think on our cars the fuel pump dosent turn on until you try to actually start the car. So you wont hear the pump turn on until you try to start the car.

Could be your timing belt, take off the oil cap and have someone crank it and see if the cams are turning. This is most likely the problem, cause if the cars in the junkyard, and has no physical damage, it probably needed a major repair.

If thats fine and you have spark then it could be your fuel pump or possibly your fuel pump relay, someone just had that problem here like 4 days ago so read back a few posts and see what they did.

You said it only has 27,000 kms? are you sure or was that a typo? If not GJ!

UPDATE

I did a few more things to try to start the car. The fuel pump works, the gas arrives to the engine and I cleaned all the spark plugs. The car still won't start. I notice when I remove the spark plug, and tested it the smark is very minimal and to me doesn't seem enough to get it going, so I'm going to try to replace the distrubutor cap and wires and go from there. Also the car has 270,000km not 27,000 but I think the engine was rebuilt, because it looks brand new, but has not been driven for 6 months. The car was scaped because the owner could not pay the bill or somthing like that and the government gave it to the scapyard because there is a big dent on the side.
