Randy Stocker wrote a nice guide that explains all. There's also a useful quick reference table at the end of his article. http://members.aol.com/solomiata/MX5Engine.html

That is a killer write up!!!!
Now this does bring up a big time question and I KNOW this is prolly a serious noob foul but...
Is the Miata 1.6 DOHC the same engine as my (soon to be) 1.6 DOHC engine??
Sorry for the noob questions but as I learn what it is I am searching for then I will stop asking...LOL.

Well... yes and no. The MX-3 1.6 DOHC is a B6DE engine and if memory serves, the early Miata's had the higher performance version B6ZE engine which produces 10 more HP, 115 HP vs 105 HP for the MX-3. Same block. I've read conflicting opinions that the head is either the same, or that there's a small diff w/a couple head oil passages? Miata B6ZE has higher performance camshafts which are reportedly swappable to the MX-3 B6DE, but the grind/duration on the B6ZE cams means you have to swap positions of the intake and exhaust cams when installing on the B6DE. Also recall that the RWD orientation of the B6ZE means different design for intake & exhaust mani's compared to the B6DE. Try a BB search for <miata swap> and you'll get some better info based on the firsthand experience of other MX-3 owners.FIEND wrote:Is the Miata 1.6 DOHC the same engine as my (soon to be) 1.6 DOHC engine??
