New VW Jetta headlights

Post by Dave Rocque »

Haven't seen any other than on various websites but the headlight shape on the new VW Jetta looks rather similar to ours. Wondering if anyone else has thought so or am I just losing my mind?

I just had a look on the web site (played video) and they do appear to be similar looking but I think their overall size is much bigger. They also sweep a fair bit rearwards when viewing it moving from front corner to the side. Nice looking lights though, German engineering always was a step ahead in that department.

lol ditto.

i'm gonna put this in a nice version...you do have the right idea the size and shape are roughly similar. the topic's been discussed to death on this forum.

rather than looking around on the net you could always go through this forum and get upto speed with what went on...after all this forum contains all the new and exciting ideas of the community (and the archieve contains ideas that were new at the time). look around, it's worth your time.

cheers,

eugene

LMAO  Let's face it Taras, until there actually ever happens to be an after market lighting system, there will always be those that will look at other alternatives like these. The only re-course is to recommend that the inquiries are directed to search the older posts and archives for relevant data...because this has happened in the past and will continue in the forseeable future. We have a better chance at winning the lottery than having a retro-fit headlight system available IMO.

there are tons that are similar, but simply being similar isn't enough for most, because even reshaping the lights, by let's sayyyyyy a mere 1", is still a major undertaking, and plus you have to line up right w/ the body panels to make it flush....

also, remember... anything OEM means MEGA bucks $$$$$$... i mean, even mazda wants something like $400 for our headlights--that's $400 a piece!!!

LOTS of $$$ + LOTS of work + no assurance things will pan out and it will look good and fit well = no one really willing to try unfortunately....

let's throw out other headlights that are similar to the mx.... this'll be fun:

- chrysler pt cruiser
- pontiac grand am
- honda civic ones of course
-mazda miata
-that mercedes SUV thingy
-heck, even the 2nd to most recent generation dodge viper headlamps.... well, to a degree i guess

keep the ball rollin'.....

let face it folks, the only headlight that will ever fit on an mx-3 is one from an mx-3!!! I don't care if you put Porshe lights or volswagen lights or figgin Daewoo lights, you're still gonna have to put some damn work into your car. Thats one of the great things about the mx-3. You have a chance to let your creative juices flow. If we we all wanted simple aftermarket parts we'd be sittin on hondatech not mx-3.com. Mod whatever lights you want, and when they're done we can all druel over them. Do some work everyone, don't just sit there and dream about it. :D

Side note: Taras, I ordered my 90mm's today, so i'll be callin you for some insight soon...

i'll be taking step buy step pics and posting them on my cardomain, for all to see. I am not really worried about anyone jacking my idea, cause when its all said and done, it'll be hard to duplicate. but like I said, there will be pics for all to see

Thanks for the "open door policy" 93SOHC. I think when it comes time to tackle my projector project, I'll be searching every one elses for inspiration. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Love to see the progress.
