WHy is my BRand NEW starter So LOUD?

Post by Canin3 »

I recently just put in a brand new starter, and it definatly is better than my old one for it actually catches, but for some reason it has a really loud SQUEEK right before the car turns on as i start it up.

???why, ...can i fix this>?

Do you mean while its cranking or just as it fires and the bendix drops out? Does it sound like a metal to metal squeak? Not the starter staying engaged too long and spinning too fast?

No it starts right away usually, just right before it starts it gives a metal to metal squeek. Not sure why. Its even worse when its cold out.

I've just posted an article on the V6 satrter motor on my web site (under info) that shows how to check the shims.
