urethane mount filling

Post by Dali »

hey, got the motor out and want to fill the mounts, i cant seem to find out if its better to just fill in the space in the mounts or to cut the rubber out and start from new. motor and tranny will be out of the car for about another week while some tranny stuff shows up so its not a big rush about letting the urethane cure but i need to start working on these in the next day, thanks.

Leave the old parts in. You'll want to make sure it's very clean, though, or the new urethane won't stick. . I put mine in the dish washer.

Dish washer huh? LOL.

We didn't clean the two mounts me and another member did. They were new Mazdaspeed mounts and were never put in yet. We used 80A urethane for the front and rear mounts.

cool, thanks guys, i know some people remove the old rubber and start over new but that seemed like way too much work to get two of the mounts down to bare metal due to the odd shape.

DEFINITELY put it in some hot a-- water for like 15 minutes before trying to squeeze it out w/a caulkin gun.

I bent two caulk guns b/c i didn't do this. The stuff is really hard to flow if it isn't warmed up first.

Jaydog and I used the kind you mix, from McMaster, it worked very well, untill I got cocky and tried to get the mixing ratio by eye instead of measuring.

I did my passenger side engine mount today.
Hope my mix worked well. I've got the 60A, and used 100ml of "Base" and 10ml of "Activator". BTW, the "Base" can was very hard to open.

I supported the engine with the jack.

EDIT: I have done 2 of 4 now. The big problem I had, was with the rear mount. I couldn't get the bolt out, because the chassie is in the way. So I tried to tilt the engine a bit to remove the bolt. That didn't work though, because I have to rmeove the cv joints to :(
The mount under the battery was I unable to fill because I couldn't remove the bolt that goes straight through the mount. :(
