How much fluid after a filter change.....

I've got a 93 GS w/ the auto. I'm doing some preventive maintenance and replaced the tranny filter and pan gasket. <p>During the change I managed to catch almost all of the fluid. I poured it into a measured container and there was only a bit more than 2.5 US quarts. That doesn't seem like much.<p>I checked the online manual and it says the system holds 6.1 US quarts. So is the rest of the fluid still in the tranny somewhere? I checked it not too long ago and the fluid level was fine. How do I get the rest of it out or do you think I was really that low.<p>Whats the best fluid to use for my refill? Thanks for the help.<p>PS I also removed the small gold colored tube and drained that too.
