Is this a good deal on a '92 MX-3??

Post by Slow SS »

Helping my GF look for a car. She's keen on the MX-3. Money's tight so we'd like to spend no more than $5,500. Looked at a '94 today but it was pretty beat up.
Saw this ad and since I am not up on my MX-3 knowledge I thought I'd ask the experts. Is this a good deal on a '92??
Auto., V6 power, power locks, power windows, power mirrors, power sunroof, not a touch of rust, in great shape, selling cert. & E-tested, 175,000 km. $5750 or best offer
It's a '92 creme colour. Problem is that it has no air-conditioning. Is that a fair deal? Should I stay away from '92? Is there something I should keep my eye out for?
Thanks guys, much appreicated.

Talk them down a bit, i paid $5500 for mine and mine is a '92 GS with everything the same as the one your girlfriend is looking at- PLUS mine has A/C as well, that car is now one year older(as i bought and paid for mine last year) so the price shouldnt be the same as what i paid for mine. Try to get them down as much as possible. Also be SURE to get a power train warrenty, as my tranny blew like 2 months after i got mine. Thank God for that warrenty! The ad said OBO...make the better offer lol
and if its private...ask about the transmission history!
Anyways good luck!

stay away from automatics if you can, they always brake. If you have to get an auto try for one with low KM's around 120,000-150,000 and try to get some service history to see if they changed the trans fluid regulary, then make sure up put a trany cooler on the car when you get it so you wont have problems in the future.
the price is high, but if the body is in PERFECT shape, with no rust and hasnt been painted it might be a good buy for 4500 check www.autotrader.ca you should be able to find one there. just try to get one with as little rust as possible. I looked at about 8 cars before I found mine, most ones for around 5000 were junk, rust under the car, body damage, high KM, painted to cover up accendents, torn seats, ect..., my 95 cost me 7500 + tax, but it had some minor problems with oil and coolant leaks.
Try and buy private if yourr getting a manual trans car so you can deal more, if your getting an auto a dealer might be better so you can get a trans warrante.
