piston oil rings
piston oil rings
Has anyone heard of MX-3 1.8ltr V6 piston oil rings wearing out early (before the compression rings) such that the car goes through oil v. quickly with no visible blue smoke & no other engine symptoms?
My car is getting through oil very quickly (0.5ltr every 200 miles) but has passed compression tests, vacuum gauge tests, coolant pressure tests, no visible oil leaks, no blue smoke, no leak in the spark plug area (valve cover)...
Thanks.
Re: piston oil rings
You should have your valve lash checked. I replaced the camshaft in my truck with a performance one. Every since then, my truck uses a little oil. There are absolutely no leaks and I do not see any smoke out of the tailpipe. I had the cam installed by my dad, who is an ASE Master certified mechanic, so I know it was done right. We were not sure what the valve lash was supposed to be because the manufacturer did not tell us. We just set the valve lash to the factory setting, so that is all I can figure that might be causing the oil to be used. It does not use that much oil, so I have not bothered to tear it all apart again to figure it out.
