What is your deal?? He asked if he should get dropzone or ground control...I answered...and what i said is totally true..call up both companies and see which spring has a higher spring rate, then come back and post results...

"Is there a "better" strut than the ZX2 for these springs?"
- Yes, MAZDASPEED Adjustable Struts. However! They are $180.00usd +tax per strut lol. So unless your loaded, stick to the ZX2's.<p>"What would you estimate install time for something like this?"
- You're looking at about 120-180 minutes per side.<p>Here is what you will need to purchase to get your Mx-3 lowered with ZX2 struts and springs!<p>PART NUMBER: M-18000-Z2 (get this from oemfordparts.com if you're american)
DESCRIPTION: Heavy duty Tokico struts performance tuned to match Eibach springs for ZX2 suspension. Provide improved body control with firmer ride. Set of 4 struts.
PRICE: C$ 290.72 (per kit)<p>PART NUMBER: AD-980 (I got these from a local ford dealership)
DESCRIPTION: ZX2 Front Upper Strut Bearing (You need two)
PRICE: C$ 29.87 (each)<p>PART NUMBER: F7CZ-3C134-BA (I got these from a local ford dealership)
DESCRIPTION: ZX2 Front Dust boots, also known as shield. (You need two)
PRICE: C$ 23.83 (each)<p>PART NUMBER: F7CZ-18159-BA (I got these from a local ford dealership)
DESCRIPTION: ZX2 REAR Dust boots. (You need two)
PRICE: C$ 11.38 (each)<p>All this ran me just over C$500. Though for you americans it's a fair bit cheaper!!<p>
***A few things you really should know before you start***
- The dust boots do NOT come with the struts. You don't necessarily need the boots, but it's a good idea.
- The struts only came with the new front bumpstop only; you'll need to reuse the rears. You might want to inquire about some new 'rear bumpstops' when ordering.
- The struts also do not NOT come with new top shaft nuts. I reused the old ones, but it's probably a good idea to replace them.
- The struts do NOT come with upper pearch mounts. You can purchase the ZX2 onces for something like C$ 80.00, or do what i did...go to the junk yard, find a ZX2 Escort and rip em' off :p .<p>
How the heck do i install these suckers? I thought they were meant for the Ford Escort ZX2!

Re: Drop Zone coilovers?
Umm, Ground Controls allow you to CHOOSE your own spring rate. Spring rate does NOT directly equal amount dropped.<p>You CAN make it ride really soft, and still lower it 2", but it'll corner on the bumpstops, and handle like crap.<p>Advantage of coilovers:<p>a) ability to choose spring rates
b) smaller 2.5" diameter universal spring easy to replace, 100s of choices
c) smaller diameter allows greater adjustment with the use of camber plates
d) ability to remove spring perch *sometimes* allows greater width tires to be mounted without rubbing
e) ability to corner-weight the car
f) ability to play with roll center heights

Re: Drop Zone coilovers?
I just want to point out that 75% of mx-3 owners want to drop there car for looks and then expect the cushy stock ride to come with it.<p>Fact #1: stiffining the suspension is at the cost of oem ride quality and the benefit of better handling.<p>most mods will have there costs and benefits but it is a give and take relationship.<p>Fact #2: low quality is generally in relationship to low cost and vice versa. go figure
.<p>Fact #3: Suspension is the most important part period.<p>In conclusion, there are drivers and there are riders.
