Question about swapping 323 GTX head to SOHC

Post by alberto95 »

Guys I need Help!!, my thoughts was to swap a 323 GTX to my SOHC block to slap a GTX manifold and make it turbo. The catch is that ive been told that combustion chambers between gtx and SOHC could be different and will affect the engine compresion. I know GTX Pistons are really low compression, so im guessing it could be done. The head has been ported and polish and i have invested a lot. Mazda gurus Please Shed Some Light!

why not just find a GTX block. the head wont just "bolt up". youd need the water and possibly oil pump, timing belt, tensioners etc from the GTX anyway... you should be able to swap in the SOHC pistons though if you really wanted a little higher compression. but use the GTX rods... also the GTX block it designed for turbo (hole in it for oil line and the oil pan with the return line).
IMO you'd be better off getting your SOHC head pnp and get a cam along with the racing mazda kit(produces really good numbers0 or just swapping in a whole GTX motor...
search the 4cyl forum for the post on what it would take to put a DOHC head on a SOHC motor... you might change your mind

in the faq it says that you can bolt the 1.8 dohc head to the 1.8 sohc head . i forget tho what kind of compression it gives you but it sounds like an iteresting swap.
lets go get it !
