I had the idea to try to give a classic car of mine a boost in HP, it uses a turbo mounted to an intake and the turbo sucks on a carburetor. An intercooler would have to cool both air and fuel and who knows what the mixture would be like exiting the intercooler? My only choice then was to think of a way to lower the intake air below ambient and a liquid-to-air intercooler was a nice place to start thinking from but it has the limitations I listed in my first post. I'm not going to do it anyway since I have too many projects and not enough time.

i dont really understand the point of going through THAT much work to get small increases in power.
Unless youre at the VERY EDGE of powerhandling capabilities...why not just run a normal setup and turn up the boost? Good headwork in the combustion chamber, and some piston work should net in a minimum of hotspots to detonate.
It just seems like too much work for little gain....
of course...i like NA tuning, so i guess i cant talk. wow.. please take your mouth off your exhaust pipe and step away from the vehicle..

at least you guys are using your brains.. pumping the AC into the intake tract to create a cooler IAT so you can run more boost.. good idea, in theory..
ever hear of propane injection? injecting propane into the motor at -60 degrees seriously decreases the intake air temperture while boosting the octane from 91 octane to 93 (or 93 to 95 if you dont live in CA)..
this technique has allowed twin turbo dodge stealth and mitsu vr4 owners to run 20 PSI on 91 octane pump gas in 100 degree tempertures.. previously with decent turbos and intercooling, you could boost maybe to 13 psi before the onset of knock..
besides raising the octane a bit, most of the ability to run higher boost using propane comes from reducing the cylinder tempertures to reduce detonation..
now imagine propane injection coupled with 110 octane race gas.. hmmmnn 30 psi anyone?
- eddie -
