not building boost!

Post by OsoSlo z28 »

i was driving around a little today(even though i shouldn't because i need to get my chip cause i'm running really rich as well as my i/c piping needs to be redone). i got on it in first gear all the way to red-line and i only got up to about 5psi. i should be reaching 8-9psi. does anyone know what it might be? i'm thinking the only things it "could" be are wastegate, bov, or the gauge is messed up. any help is appreciated. thanks.

Well you also said your piping needs to be redone, what do you mean by that? Piping could be the problem also exhaust leak has been known to affect turbos.

the piping is sealed all the way. i just need to get my front mount installed with new piping. the intake piece off the turbo is two pieces of pvc(ghetto ain't it :D ) i was talking to derrick. he said something to the effect of me running so rich it isn't burning enough gas so it's not spooling the turbo fast enough. we'll see how true this is once i get my chip. thanks for the reply. i'll check my exhaust to make sure i don't have any leaks.
[ June 01, 2002: Message edited by: cre8v mx3 ]

i don't know much about turbos...but maybe it's the vacuum hose and it might not be sealed or it may have a hole or leak?

My other thought on this is that it could be a faulty BOV, because if it is just releasing the pressure and not sticking then you could be just pushing a small amount of boost.
Experience on this was I had a DMS BOV and I had no boost pressure at all, had to change to a Ford BOV for awhile.
