Turbo and Manifold
Turbo and Manifold
The main question I have is, where can I buy a manifold for my 1.8L v6? I know some peeps fabricate them, but I can't find anywhere that sells them. I am good with welding, I just don't want to take the time right now. Also, will the IC off a 1989 thunderbird fit on our cars? I have never seen this intercooler, and was wondering if any of you have. I can get a turbo and IC from the Tbird for $75 from a recycler.
Also, I may have to, or decide to fabricate it later in the future. Does anyone have pix of their manifold so that I have something to go off of? Thanks alot everyone.

Re: Turbo and Manifold
I think your outta luck for a bolt on manifold.....just call around to performance shops and engine builders and maybe a muffler shop, and they should know someone to fab one up for ya....as for the turbo I'm thinking it would be to big for your 1.8 but I'm not to sure what size engine teh T bird is. If it is relatively the same size engine than it should work but I'd look around for something alittle better myself

Re: Turbo and Manifold
The turbo and IC you're talking about can be used for an upgrade to the 85-86 SVO Mustangs which use a 2.4L four (I think). So they ought to be about the right size for the little V-6, however the IC is designed to fit flush against the underside of the hood (hood scooped fresh air down through it) so unless you plan to do the same, it's not going to fit very well anywhere else. The battery would HAVE to go the trunk, etc, etc.

Re: Turbo and Manifold
Yea, the t-bird is a 2.2L. As for the intercooler I would have to cut and weld one of the tanks becuz the port comes out the front and I'd beed it out the side for a front mount app.
I have been doing some research and I was debating wether we really need a new manifold to turbocharge the 1.8L engine. We'd need both banks to get it to spool right, so why not just mount it under the car where the exhaust collector is? Then all I'd have to do is run the tube back up to the front thru the cooler and into the intake. (I'm sure it can't be that easy, but I would love someone to tell me the flaws so I can come up with another way.) I would love to figure out how to do this without customizing two new manifolds becuz either I do them myself (too lazy) or $450 a pop (don't have the money on hand). Any help would be great.

Re: Turbo and Manifold
i tryed that and it did not work u have to munt it on the side above the starter or there abouts it was extreamly difficault to do and took a week to do. the most impotant thing to buy is a welder if u are going to do it u self. and do not cut the factory y pipe if u can help it because if u decide to take it out it will cost u 500-800 dollars to get a new oem one and as of now there are no after market replacements. i eneded up cracking my collector pipe in pa on some super bad road and gave up the whole thing for know i went with zex. much better. but if u plan to turbo your 1.8 i will help u in any way i can hopeful u wont have as many problums as i did. if u need any parts i have many turbo t3s and intercoolers around.

It's quality work alright; the worst quality ever. Ever use a crock pot as a heat shield? If you get a TKT kit, expect to rebuild it to get it to fit, much less work well.
