Turbo Manifold &Questions

Ok, Turbo question. Will a Eagle-Talon (Mitsubishi-Eclipe) Manifold fit on a 4 Banger without modification? Or must I do some?<P>Will a 323 Turbo fit on a Sohc? Or must I change the whole engine?<P>Will Turbo burn more fuel? On a highway? On normal Road? Or does it "kick in" at some point, which, if not needed, will not burn more fuel?<P>Thanks for the info.

I dont know how true it is, but i;ve heard that 1st gen DSM (eclipse/talon) turbo exhaust manifold do bolt upto the 1.6L DOHC with little modification needed. I just sold my turbo setup from my '90 GSX to someone from this board...i don't know if he was planning to use it for an mx-3 or not, but if he was, i'll try to find out if it fit or not....<P><BR>yea turbos kinda "kick in". It takes time and rpm's to build up boost. If you drive around boosting hard all day, yes you will waste a lot of gas. A turbo should not affect fuel mileage much under normal driving conditions. The turbo is spun by the exhaust gases of your engine, so they do not start creating boost until you have alot of exhaust gases exiting (which is what happens when you give it more gas. Under normal driving conditions, there should be NO boost. My Supra turbo (that I used to have) would cruise around town at up to 80+MPH without boost. But if I stepped hard on the accelerator, then the turbo would kick in and we would start hauling a--. The more you mash on the accelerator, the more the turbo will spin, thus creating more boost. Now I said that it will not affect fuel mileage, that is true, but there is a catch. If you get a turbo on your car, then you know as well as I do, that you will NOT be driving normal (at least for a while). You will be stepping on the gas hard every chance you get because the added power will make driving so much more fun than it has been before installing the turbo. With this in mind, you WILL notice that your fuel mileage will drop. Air+Fuel=POWER. This means that the extra air that a turbo will cram into your engine does no good unless you can feed it more fuel, thus making the power increase, so therefore if you drive around using boost, then your gas mileage will drop.<p>[ October 18, 2001: Message edited by: RanMan ]

yea, supra's have nice turbo setups. I have a '90 Eclipse GSX with a 16g turbo in it. It's VERY hard to drive normally because it moves and accelerates too quick. My gas mileage makes it very expensive to use as a daily driver

No. Eclipse manifold + MX3 SOHC = mistake.<P>I think I posted this somewhere on this site already. It was something that came up about my first turbo install (I'm working on my third so far, second mx3).<P>I used the manifold (steel) from an eclipse, cut off the flange and added an mx-3 flange that we traced from the original one.<P>It was a cheap and dirty solution. Just go and get one made at the local muffler/speed freak shop.<P>At this point, I've seen it done so many times that if I had my own welding equipment, I would do it myself.<P>forget about Eclipses. MX-3's a much cuter. Chicks dig a grown man running around in an MX-3.<P>...I'm sorry, I can't stop laughing. I'm just kind of stupid today. <P>I think I'll paint mine Neon Pink..
