Ground Wires Kit

Post by Zetgohan »

Looking at other boards I heard that this wasn't a complete hoax, and if for nothing it would improve stereo sound in the car. Well I installed mine today (got from ebay) and I did notices these differences.
My car idled almost 1000RPM higher, had to adjust the throttle body, also my headlights were brighter significantly.
I wasn't able to take it for a drive because I also just installed my power-steering hose but didn't have enough PSF to put into it, it's late and auto-zone is closed. Tomorrow I will see if the car pulls any-better.

No short because the short would just be worse now with a good grounding system. You also woulda blown a fuse. You probably just had real bad grounding before :)

I was thinking about getting the ground wire set off of ebay and now that someone else has done it i might go ahead and get them. How hard is it to put in?

takes about an hour, more time consuming than hard (some spots you need patience, others just go right in)

On a scale of 1-10 on the hardness scale, it'd be a zero. It's pretty damned easy. Just cutting wire and crimping connectors on, then heatshink over the connection.

raining today so i've changed intakes, but i definitly get more pull at higher RPMs (4000+).
Also the engine runs smoother throughout the power-band.
probably the best $25 dollars i've spent on the car.

For peoples who need clarification, Nothing in your Ignition system actually boosts your HP!
any that claim too are just using advertising!

The True Problem:
Your ignition system is what gets the car going and keeps it there. parasitic loss occurs when your car isn't properly grounded or electrical interferrence occurs or your spark isn't "hot" enough.

The Cure:
All the MSD ignition boosters, wires, and ground wires kit do is make your ignition system more efficient
Because of this you lose less power...
these kits really help on older cars due to wear on your system, and especially to heavily modded cars.

so what i'm saying is a car with a top HP of 150 won't gain HP by adding ground wires.
a car with a top HP of 150 is probably lossing 5-10 hp because of the ignition system isn't efficient so it's only pulling 140hp,
by improving your ignition system you only lose maybe 1-2hp so now you pull 148HP...

Just for those who need clarification

I always kinda wanted to go get the wire and do a custom one myself, but never got around to it. But when Street-Import was selling all that stuff I got a MazdaSpeed grounding kit (it has a central terminal, so a custom-made one would probably be more efficient) I installed it and woh. I have a lot of mods, but I really like this... The motor idles and revs so smoothly...It really does make a huge diff in that anyways.. My gauge faces dim less when i hit the brakes at night, but i never really had a problem with my headlights so I can't speak for that.. As for power, I doubt you'd get much (on the large part i disagree with what Zetgohan just posted) I couldn't tell ya.. I installed the kit when I was putting the tranny back in + a few other goodies :)

I think making a grounding kit is something that everybody should do... It's cheap and it's real.

i wasn't saying they weren't worth doing, I started the post about how well they work.
I was just saying the above because if you go by dyno results and HP gains posted in the advertisements you'll probably get screwed.
The only reason i bought some from ebay is because they have a smaller guage (bigger wire)
than what I had on hand and because it came with a better battery terminal clamp to replace the old one.

but what i said about the ignition only reducing lost HP is true.

like underdrive pullies don't give you horsepower, they free up lost HP.

A turbo gives you HP, nitrous gives you HP, but grounding the car only prevents HP loss.
