looking for new engine

Post by ptrouge4 »

last year i blew my engine on my 93 mx i have the 1.6 v-6, im really not lookin to put the 2.5 into my car cause the 1.8 is fast enough for me. i want to put the same engine back into my car so my question is this....

how much should it be for me to buy a new engine (1.8 v6) and if anyone knows of a good place in the U.S. to find this engine. cause i know its a pretty rare engine. any kind of help i would be more than thankful for...i have big plans for my car but i need to get it running first.

You haven't felt the power of a KL-ZE yet. When you have then you'll know the differnce and you'll never want to go back. Just like turbocharging....I miss the boost :crying:
MX3 KL-DE, probe/mx6 ebay turbo pipes, T3/T4 50 trim @ 8psi, millenia injectors, SAFC2, intercooled,Greddy RS BOV, turbonetic 38mm external wastegate. Wisco 9.5 forged piston, millenia S rods, and high performance rings coiming in soon. Shooting for 400whp this summer.

You really might as well just swap in a US 2.5L KLDE if anything. It'd be easier to find since it comes off of 4 different cars (MX-6, Probe GT, 626, base Millenia). Easier to find will make it cheaper and you may find a low mileage very good condition motor for cheap. And the 2.5L is the same to swap in as the stock 1.8V6 and the only thing you gotta change is the ECU and VAF and somebody will readily trade your VAF with the 2.5L VAF since our stock VAFs are for ZE swaps. And its a nice little power boost with just as good if not better gas mileage.

yeah, for real, man. There's no reason not to get the 2.5L. But, I have my K8 on a stand at the house right now. It has about 140K miles on it, but it was still going strong...
'93 GS sporting 31 ZE, 36 ECU, Millenia IM & TB, Beefed up tranny, Fidanza FW, CM Stage II-R, Al UDP, HS Headers, MF Hi-Flow CAT, 2.5" Piping, CAI, MGC Wires, MS Mounts, B&M SS, Bronzoils, SS B & C Lines, Brembos...more.
Oh yeah, I have a stock ATX 92 RS too.

in a wrecker they will charge ya more for the 1.8 than the 2.5 because of how rare they are, the 2.5 would be a better swap all around, a bit more go and cheaper

Last I heard Corksport had a few 1.8's sitting around from doing engine swaps.. might give them a call and see if any are in good shape and how much they'd want for one and the shipping to get it to you.

But seriously, if you need a new engine, it's most likely going to be cheaper to find a KL-DE (sometimes called a KL-03 by mistake) at a local wrecker, than it is to find a 1.8L from most sources.

I know where you can get a brand spanking new KLDE with all new sensors and everything for $2000 if you're interested. Putting a K8 back in is dumb. People with KL's in thier MX3 get better fuel economy than the K8, so there's not a single arguement I can find for a K8 replacement.

Thanks for the reply's guys. the KLDE are you talkin a never used basically engine for $2000? i mite be interested? my biggest thing like i said is i love getting anywhere from 250 to 350 mpg on the 1.8 cause i drive so much. im not worried about speed. the 1.8 is fast enough for me. i much rather have good brakes so i can stop nice for the girls than fly past them lol...also one more question....what is the cheapest just to have any idea, the cheapest good standing engine anyone has seen? thanks again everyone

with such a small car alot of people notice the MPG go up when you put in the bigger motor and it dont weight no more so you can still stop for the ladies and you can find good used KL-DEs for anywhere from $300 and up and you will need the KL-DE ECU and VAF, probetalk and mx6.com are good places to look since people swap out their KL-DE for KL-ZEs

Most of those are remanufactured engines, but the part highlighted in green are BRAND NEW crate engines. Includes everything including water pump, oil pump, distributor, spark plug wires, spark plugs, intake manifold, throttle body, and all brand new sensors.

The only thing you'd need would be an ECU from the same year Probe or MX6 V6, which should only run you about $50-$100.
