HKS Nightmares

Post by UKMX-3 »

Hi guy's this is my first post here and i'm really hoping you can help me out with a "wee" problem...... Just fitted an HKS Megapower airfilter to my car, it all connected up properly no leaks etc..... but it doesn't seem to be working properly. The symptons are

1) Erratic idle when the engine is hot or cold,
2) complete lack of power below about 3000rpm
3)If i've been driving at a decent speed and then stop, the car just stalls ( and yes i have got my foot on the clutch )

Anyone who has any ideas what this could be please help me out, i love this car but this is really annoying, how am i supposed to terrorise Honda Civics if my car keeps on stalling!!!! :crying:

The problem really sounds like a vacuum leak between the VAF and the rest of the engine. Leaks in front of the VAF have no effect because the air hasn't been measured at that point. The most likely cause is a tear in the ribbed duct from the VAF to the throttle body (hard to spot), and a good temporary repair method is duct tape.
Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!
Extra thick soundproofing in the boot (trunk) to quieten my stainless steel exhaust system :)

May i try to make one suggestion.
If you had purchase the HKS SuperPower Flow Kit for MX3. Than congrulation! Best investment ever. Add power and save $$$ on gas....

Only one thing to watch when you install in.
the plastic pin inside the power flow filter should not push the air mass sensor inward too much. The rubber connector come with the kit is just long enough and will not fall. So, no need to push in so much.

Another option, go to Canadian Tire, spend below CAD10- on a 3inch rubber connector. And you know what to do.

ah that makes sense, i thought the little b****d was a little to close for comfort, i've also adjusted the idle point a little, and it seems to have worked, for now anyway - side effect is a loud hiss coming from the HKS, guess that shows its working anyway.... Next step Custom ECU mapping!

dont drop all your cash on custom chip tuning yet, not much power to be had doing that unless you got some serious mods on your engine. do some research.

Thats not a problem, its a uk company called DASTECH, I know the owner and he told me that he would set the chip up for whatever setup i had as many times as i wanted, for free, besides the only other mod i have planned engine wise this year is a custom build full DE-CAT 4.5" exhaust system which goes in next week! The rest of this years money goes suspension and 17" alloys maybe 18's if i can be bothered with the extra work and handling issues.

I hope you are talking about 2.25" piping with a 4.5" tip?

4.5" piping will seriously remove alle torque and power in the engine.

it will be like swapping the V6 for a 1.1 Nissan Micra engine...
