where does the speedometer cable go into the tranny?

I recently replaced my cv joint and I cant find where the speedometer cable goes into the tranny to fill the gear oil. Any help would be great cause I cant drive until I get some in there. Also what gear oil is recomended, weight? Thanks

remove stock airbox and intake. you then need to remove battery and battery tray and look at your transmission when facing the windshield.. it should be on the top of the transmission, upper left section and the cable into the transmission SHOULD have a white handle that can be unscrewed. when you fill with oil, fill very slowly because there's a little space in there so it can overflow if you rush it. you can also gain some good access from under the car, but it'll be hard to fill up the tranny.

It all depends which engine you have and if its auto/manual. Only ones I know of having a speedo cable is just the 92 RS with an auto tranny.

I believe ALL the 4 cyls (auto or 5 speed) have a cable, and all GS's are electrical.

I believe your wrong... Some of the 93's were cable speedos, anything after that is electrical

When you say "anything after that" are you meaning both 4 cyl and V6? At the minimum we would both be wrong...The online shop manual which is 1995 specific, for the F25M-R tranny (4 cyl 5 speed) shows a speedometer cable on page j1-012, item 10 (the legend is on j1-013). The G25M-R (V6 5 speed) , page j2-012 item 12, shows an electrical connector. The automatic tranny shows an electrical connector. My 1993 automatic (1.6) is cable.I looked at another Mx3 forum and their archives say that the GS speedos were always electric, and all 4 cyl 5 speeds were cable (dont know about the automatics.. I would assume electrical, but I dont know that for a fact). Who knows... there is so much disinformation floating around forums anymore its hard to know what to believe.

I have 2 friends with 95/96 rs's .. both have electric. I havent seen a 94-96 with a speedo gauge. Anyone have one that can vouch for it? And BTW, yes all GS's had electrical speedos.

If they are 5 speeds, whats up with the shop manual showing a cable on the 1.6 5-speed? BTW, whats up with the shop manual only showing one automatic in 1995? Did the 1.6 and V6 share automatics in 1995? Or did one not have an automatic option? This is giving me a headache.

both autos i believe. I'm not sure why there's a difference in the manual. It could have something to do with there being differences between us/canadian production cars, i've seen other differences in the instrument cluster between us/canadian models (besides mph/khm). Your guess is as good as mine..
