Should I sell my 94 mx-3 rs for a gs?

Post by fictionaldaydream »

I was wondering should I sell my 94 rs for a 94+ gs. I mean yeah I would have to include more money, but I mean to be able to get one though. I want a 94+ because I hate auto seat belts. Anyways my question is how hard is it to install a klze and also I read a topic about the klze beating civics and preludes, if it can. So how quick is a klze mx-3? I drive my 94rs and its slow I know but I still think its alright though. I haven't put much money into it yet so should I. I know I bought a gs spoiler for a guy on here named jspec I think and he had a klze mx-3 and I thought it sounded amazing.

It depends on your preference. The RS you have has the DOHC motor, so it would be easier to swap a BPT into it. But....that swap is much more expensive than a KLZE swap into a GS since you have to factor in engine management, ignition, fuel and intercooler plumbing on top of the engine costs. (expect to spend about $2500-3500 depending on what brand name of parts you get).
As for the KLZE swap, it was a peice of cake. It basically looks identical to my K8 after I removed it. Just swap the tranny's, maybe install a new clutch (might as well), replace a few gaskets and other related maintence stuff and it bolts right in after you swap a few things like the EGR manifolds etc.
With the K8 intake manifold and KLZE ecu, KLZE Mx3's run about a 14.5-14.9 in the 1/4 mile. With the jspec klze intake manifold, i've seen people posting times of about 14.0-14.5.
With intake and exhaust and underdrive pulleys, I've seen a best time posted of about 13.7 (can't remember), with this engine swap.

i must say, if you have the 4 banger, in the long run itll be cheaper and some reasons include
custom turbo job or got b6t swap
racing mazda is trying to develope a turbo kit for the dohc mx-3 and the one for sohc is 2000 which gives people a great starting point if the dont want it custom done
a bp-then turbo swap actually saves money over the bpt(this has been pointed out to me several times by maldo, cre8tiv mx-3, marlon and a few others!) and youll hit 14's and 13's im sure.
insurance reasons!!! i know on my rs(88hp) id pay 600 every 6 on my own with one ticket(24 over, not braggin just lettin ya know what it is cuz its a high speeding ticket and insur eats ya alive for it)...on parents with one ticket, 450. the 6 cyl id pay like 1200+(dude wouldnt give me a quote on one) and i wanna say 700-900 every six on my parents so as you can see big savings for me on insur, hope thats the case for you.
well thats all i could think about at the moment.
i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!

The Lower insurance would be a good reason to stay with the 4 cyl but that all depends on where you live. I'm 18 and live in Alberta, Canada. Insurance for me is about 4600 a year. And thats just plpd, no collision. It wouldnt matter if i was driving a Geo metro or a corvette it would be the same price for that coverage.

It all depends on what you want the engine to do. if you want instant torque and not ultimate power the V-6 with a KLZE is the way to go. No matter how much some one tells you that the turbo lag isnt there, it is. If you want ultimate HP than a turbo 4 might be the way to go. It is a lot easier to turbo the 4 than the V-6.
The DOHC BP normally aspirated motor is pretty stought. They are proven in the miata to be reliable to ~12psi and 220 wheel HP.
Either way you go your going to have a fast very fun car.
