forgot to mention most high end sports cars use discs containing a high % of cast iron in them, it must be for a good reason or why bother...

Quality rotors typically are made of better metal. I'm sure that the OEM rotors or Brembo rotors use steel with more iron than the cheaper Chinese or Taiwanese made rotors.
