The 1.8L V6 MX-3 GS comes with a 90amp alt from the factory. The only FACTORY mazda alt with more amps that will BOLT ON is the 110amp alt from the J-spec KLZE millenia. you could probably just get one of those GM style 1 wire high out put alts and make it work if you want more power.

like you said thats peak. find out what the normal power required would be.
If you will be useing this system at peak power for short trips(2-3 mins) then you might want a high output alt. if you use it on low power and longer trips(8-20 mins) then a 90 amp alt should be fine. 90 amps X 12 volts =1080 W
The easyest thing is to use 2 battery's, or get a high amp deep cycle batt.
2 650 amp batt's X 12V = 15600W
800 amp bat X 12V = 9600 W This battery should be good enough for your system if you not cranking it up all the time.
The main problem is recharging the battery(s) after you have been cranking it up for a long time, that is why people use high amp alt's.(EXCEPT for SPL competition OR cars with multi monitors, playstations, subs, bread makers, washing machines instaled and all running at the same time, they NEED HIGH amp alts)

Thanks for the help. I understand all that. What would be the best way to wire the batteries together?

I think its positive to positive and run both negitives to the chassis ground. just to be sure ask your local performance stereo shop, someone that has experience with these setups.
