What do people mean when they talk about how they sacrifice idle for hp??? what is sacrificing idle?

How worse is worse? I was planning on doing a cam job on someones car I dont want to have to think ive done something wrong.

Well actually I just finished the job. All I did was swap the cams he bought and thats not so bad. Idle is still reasonable and not as worse as I read it would be.
