RAM Air Idea?

Ok I was thinking of doing this idea in the picture below. I would be using 4" pipe coming off the bumper to the prm filters, then 3" after that. I was think by the time you hit 30mph you should get some boost right? Built up pressure since the system is sealed all the way from the bumper to the TB and air is being forced in... Hmmm What do you guys think..?<P>

i run a 9x6" opening to a 4" flex hose to my stock air box with a k+n<P>I think you can feel the difference past 140kms.<P>but you have to clean the filters alot like every oil change because of all the butterflys and bee it gobbles up

You aren't going to build up any pressure, the 4" opening to 3" piping may only be better at high speeds because of how quickly the air is traveling. In that case you would only need one PRM filter anyway.<P>The only way you'll see better results from a buildup of air being taken into the engine is from a Turbocharger or Supercharger.

i think one would be better than 2 imo... but than its your car so go for it. its kinda got a why go dual exhaust when you can do a single thats better, cheaper, and lighter, not to mention probably quicker? i think it will make a difference but you can probably do a single better, cleaner, and easier. personally i wouldnt like flex piping running all down both sides and across my engine bay. a lot of heat soak can happen going across the engine bay at a red light. i have a custom intake setup with aluminum piping from the tb to the vaf and more piping from there into the fender attached to a cone filter. sure its great when your moving but i had to insulate the aluminum piping to avoid heat soak. im not trying to discourage you but if you can get around the heat soak and dont mind all the flex piping go for it.

say if i did this to my car how much would it cost and also would i even benfeit got having a full cat back exhaust or anything ? would the twin intake make the car still perform well the car has a single hks now...

The main reason I even thought of this was because I have the KLZE and it feels as if it needs more AIR. I mean the PRM was designed arround a 1.8l engine. I already have one prm and don't wanna waste it but I also want to make sure I am not restricting the intake of air... The ram air idea came from that GSR page.. I have read so many post about some people say it helps and others say its not worth filling you engine with water when it rains.. Well I thought I would run this idea past you guys and see what you think..

zeviri there is a cool air intake that was made for a ford mustang that will work on the klze, i know there is someone on this board who has one i just cant think who it is, it might be kevin from Moca Not sure though

ok might sound dumb but if you run the piping that runs across the engine bay along the lower end of the front bumper - IE below the area mainly effected by heatsoak, wouldn't it work then? just a thought -say behind the bumpers bottom lip and run it under the rad... I am a beleiver in the ram air(not cold air) setup , use plastic for all your piping to reduce heat conduction from the hot engine bay to the cool intake air.<P><BR>I don't think you need two but it will look more uniform.<P>I say even if you can get the engine out of running a vacuum at 100mph every little bit helps

I don´t think that your engine will be eating a significant difference of air just because you have two filters installed. It still has to go through the Vaf, which will be restricting your airflow. Wow that looks like a pretty useful piece of kit.. Not cheap but then if your looking into these things your serious about your cars.. Be interested to know how the guy got on in the end - if you can remove the VAF then we could have some real fun with ram-air etc

Easiest (and so far best) thing for the klze is to go out and buy the "dragon" intake for the KL series from the probe or mx-6. The intake is based around the larger 2.5L engine and sucks ALOT more air, it is also the best intake I have found that is also just bearly restrictive enough to not bog the engine down at the lower rpm range. They also sell a "RamAir" Kit that is basically an airbath and looks like it would work pretty well. I currently have one on the older 1.8L and not only can I tell a diffrence from the stock airbox, but you can remove everything from the throttlebody forward and just slap in the MAF with a silicone adapter. I think it was 2.5 > 4". The only problem is that because it was designed for the 2.5L my lowend on the 1.8 is suffering, but when it hits 4k rpms and the short runners open, it makes one hell of a noise and you can actually hear how much my car "sucks"...anywho my 2 cents. If you wanna see it or drive my car and see what I am talking about, let me know. Im always happy to help out a fellow MX'er esp. from austin...
