Oxygen sensor not needed?

Post by chance »

My MX-3 GS has been running crappy lately. It seems like it trips over itself on take off and has very little power. I hooked it up to my buddy's scanner and it displayed codes 16 and 17. Code 16 is a bad left O2 sensor so I got another one off a junked Mx-3 and started to swap them. while doing this I had an idea. I took my car for a drive with the old sensor still in but unplugged. It ran great. I don't know how this could be. I assumed the car wouldn't even idle, but it runs great, smooth take offs and lots of power.
If someone with a good running car could disconnect their O2 sensor and let me know how it ran I would really appreciate it. Someone more knowing please write back.

O2 sensors aren't all that expensive. Go to Nopi or www.oxygensensors.com.

I'm sorry, it read 16 and 17. 17 is the o2 sensor not 16. I only pulled the front one.
Better gas mileage or not it still runs considerably better. Tomorrow I'll put the other one I have in and see what that does. I just thought the whole thing was kind of interesting.
