Both of my locks dont work??? help!!!

Post by precida94 »

On my MX-3 94 V6 Precida, both my driver and passenger side locks, dont work. I can put the key into both of them and it turns, i mean the key turns but the lock itself doesnt move at all? Just happened recently, no one tryed to break in, I dont think? First my passenger side went, then the driver side, after awhile though!!
Any help would be great!!
thanks

I have a lock issue too. Key and everything works, turns, etc. But if you lock the doors, they don't actually LOCK. You can set the toggles inside to lock, close the door, then open both without a key. WTF?

;) Check your owners manual. When you lock your door, you need to hold the door handle out when you close the door.

quote:
Originally posted by Chris Boden:

The reason for it not locking when you set it to lock is so that you cant lock yer keys in the car, nice little saftey feature there, dont know why they dont still use that method in most cars!
Never knew about holding the handle out I always tried using the key to relock it after the door is closed thanks for the info!

Precida,
It might not look like someone has tried to break in but my guess is that they have tried. I'm thinking from what you described that inside that doors the piece that connects the lock tumbler to the actual lock has been knocked off. The only reason I can see that it would happen to both doors is because of an inept thief who needs to find a day job. I would take the door panels off and check to see if anything is disconnected. If there is, reconnect it. Hope this helps.

Mine is something to do with the outside lock.
[ March 06, 2003: Message edited by: precida94 ]

Hey thanks Steve, and yah its true, maybe there so good that I cant even tell if they did break in or at least tried. When its a bit warmer Im going to try that and let you know, now its pretty easy im assuming to take the panels off right?
Claudio

I had the same problem with my locks. Locked my keys in the car and the CAA/AAA guy who tried to slim jim bent the inner rods in the door. Had to get the panels taken off and the rods straightened. Not perfect, but they work now. Hope this info helps.

Once panels are removed, will the rod be very visible? Or any of the lock mechnisms? thanks!!!
Claudio

There are a few screws around like inside the door handle (interior) and around the latch. The you need to pull the window winder off...I believe it's held on by a C clip. After that just slide some flat under the panel like a trim remover or putty knife and pry it off. Good luck.

Well you guys were right, finally yesterday I got around to take off my panel and it snapped back on the metal rod that goes from the key mechnasim to the lock itself. That was easy, taking the panel off was pretty easy also. BUT my big problem is putting the panel back on, well actually the panel is easy to put on I mean putting back the window winder. I mean I saw that it was held on by I guess you called it a C clip, and that was easy enough to take off, but I spent over 3 hours last nite trying to figure out how to put the clip back in. I would of left it alone, but you need the clip in or else the window winder falls off. I was thinking of about to glue it back on, but what if I have to open this again!! Anyways the C clip itself, doesnt look the same anymore, even though I've tryed to bend it back to the I found it, impossible!! Anyways if anybody knows how to get it back on, please let me know, that would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Thanks again guys!!!
