148db's with only one sub !!

Post by smooth933 »

I went to this car show like two weeks ago and took first place with a score of 148 dB's. I have one 15" Memphis sub and a 500 watt Memphis amp .the head unit is pioneer the flip out one . It made a world of difference. the speakers in the doors and rear are Memphis 6 1/2. And they scream. I took over all in the show to. I beat everyone there, I went against 4 12" and won. so that just goes to show it how much you have, it's how you set it up. :) Armageddon MX-3
[ September 08, 2003: Message edited by: mx3 4u2nv ]

where was the decibel meter placed? if it was on your dash then you really were only hittin about 130-135 but if it was outside your car then that is pretty unbelievable since you only have 1- 15in memphis and only 500watts, in minnesota theres a dude with 10- 8" memphis subs and 10-400watt amps for each sub and hes only hit 153db and your what , 5 decibels away? i highly doubt it oh and you can prove it from the meter itself? any pics? or printouts?
sold the mx-3 , bought 04 gtp comp g , from the smallest v6 to one of the biggest 3800 s/c FTW

Don't be so cynical. I hope to hit a 145 with a similar setup.
And a 148 at the dash doesn't equate to a 130 at the head. You might see a 10 dB swing at most, but a 20 dB swing? Not unless the mic is outside the car.
And the world record for a single sub setup is something like a 171. It's with a single 10" DD I believe and 4 kilowatt amps if memory serves.

i think it's actually every 6db's the sound apparantly gets twice as loud....
that's good for one 15" sub!!! there aren't that many cars get anywhere near that usually it's around 140 for an expensive setup.
i went to a soundoff the other day and a ford fiesta with a tuned sub box running 2 18" subs only got 145 and a vw golf with 40 10" subs and stupid amounts of amps got 156... but said that it can hit up to 175/180.
i'm surprised that at that kind of level if your car's not reinforced you've gotta damage the car in some way!!!

You can run a daily driver up to 160 dB without damaging your car if you do it right. And I've seen the idiots in the lanes that pull up with a couple monster subs and come up lame. They usually have poor implemenation. i.e. no mass-loading sound deadening, way-off tuning tuning, poor speaker placement, or worse - running sealed boxes.

first of all koreanmx-er why are you hatin, it was on the dash, what were your scores again? why do i need proof of a meter , i thought it hit pretty damn hard, and why would they test spl out side the car. this is just something i like to play around with, it aint like I'm trying to go pro, as if i needed your approval. but to you other guys, thanks for the responded and keep on hittin those hard dB's

testing spl outside the car is absolutely pointless, totally defeats the purpose of spl. Why would people go through all the effort to have accuator closed doors and bullet proof glass sealed by bolts and cement filled doors and walls - if they test sound pressure level outside of the vehicle?

I believe his claim. I saw a Single Octane R 12" dual Ported Box hit 145db. Anything is possible.

of course anythings possible there are claims that the jona lumu series of fusion one sub can hit around 150 if as was said before in the correct box, placement etc.
if the lad got 145 why knock it that's a good spl rating waaaayyyy better than mine (but my subs are inverted which i personally think makes a lot of difference.)
