Alarm/Keyless/Rem Start...

Post by 92MX3GS »

I'm thinking of looking for an Alarm/Keyless entry/ Remote start for my fiance's 92 MX3 GS (automatic tranny). And I have a couple of questions:
1. Her car (I'm not sure if all MX3's do this) will unlock both doors if you unlock the driver's side, but not the passenger side. I would like to get her keyless entry, but from the way the locks work, I'm assuming that there's no actuator to lock/unlock the driver's side. I know there is on the passenger side. Is there a way to put an actuator on the driver's side so that they keyless entry would unlock the driver's door and not just the passenger's door?
2. Most alarms come with a remote trunk pop. The trunk pop on her car feels like it's a cable, is this true? If it is, then that's out of the question.
Thanks!

1. You are assuming correct, there is no acuator for the drivers side door, ran into that problem installing an alarm myself. After failing my install I went of the an alarm installation guy and he quoted me and alarm system and said I needed the drivers side actuator also.
2. The trunk pop is a cable so no trunk pop there but I found a website that sells an add-your-own trunk release unit which I installed on my MX-3 and it works great for me and I installed it so I can still use the cable release(did not want to use the press button that comes with it, only open it from remote).
The site is www.commandoalarms.com
you can buy all sorts of add-on goodies for your car there. You can also buy a universal door actuator there. I may buy the door actuator from them and try and install it myself soon because the alarm tech quoted me $70 bucks for the actuator.
Hope this helps out some.

Thanks for the info! That lets me know that I can get an actuator for her car, but after getting in the door to repair the lock one time, I don't really look forward to getting back into the door anytime in the extremely near future.

they arent that bad to install i have them on both doors and they just attach the the rod attached to the lock. the hardest part is running the wires...
