Whistling noise??? :(
Lately, I've been hearing a "whistling noise" from inside the car whenever I step on the accelerator.
Even with the slightest tap on the accelerator, I here this whistling noise. I thought it was the vents, cuz when I turned OFF the vents, the whistling went away immediately. But lately, I can still hear the whistling whether the vents are on/off.
So I'm afraid the sound is coming from my speakers?? aka Interferance??? I've tried turning off my deck, but the sound is still there though. Would it matter if my deck is on or not if it is indeed interference?
TIA

Re: Whistling noise??? :(
it's probably not your speakers, if the hu is off. do you have any-aftermarket lights, etc?

You are running your power wire from the battery thru the firewall right? If so, check where the wire goes through at. I don't have a grommet (I know, bad) around the wire right there, and it whistles at me too......
Hope that helps
Re: Whistling noise??? :(
if there is interference in your speakers, your head unit HAS to be on. It's not your speakers if your deck is off.

Re: Whistling noise??? :(
Thanks for the tips guys.
Yeah, I'm running power through the firewall where that grommet/rubber plug thing is. But there's not much room in there..
The weird thing is that when I do hear it, I turn off the fan, and it stops, I turn on the fan and I hear it again. But 'sometimes' when I turn off the fan, I can still hear it.
So if it's intererance, my deck has to be on too eh? Hmm... since it's still there, then maybe it's not interference...
I guess since it sometimes is still there when the vent is off, then maybe there's something in the path of the vents... something that moves around occasionally, maybe like a leaf?? Where can I check where the vents are? Can I see it under the hood?

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's one of those things that are 'barely' audible. But once you notice it, you'll ALWAYS notice it, heh.

quote:
Originally posted by VizualXTC:
I had a leaf in my vent in my Truck, it bugged the hell out of me. Re: Whistling noise??? :(
I really don't know What it is. I only hear it when I touch the gas pedal, even slightly. It doesn't really get louder if I press the gas pedal down -- the sound is constant.
But like I said, sometimes when I turn off the vents, then the sound immediately disappears. When I'm on an empty street, I'll step on the gas slightly so that the whistling is constant. then I'll turn the vents OFF, and it's gone. I flip the vents back ON and the whistling comes back.
Is there any way I can check the vacuum line visually? How big of a problem would it be??
[ November 13, 2001: Message edited by: GMGQ ]

Thanks for your help/suggestions, guys. But I just got a new deck last night, and installed it today.
Unsoldered the old deck, and soldered in the new deck. Now the "whistling noise" is GONZO!! I think the old ground solder was bad... Sweet new deck, and no more annoying whistling... ahh!

Re: Whistling noise??? :(
What the sound was, is called "Noise", and is caused by a.) A bad ground or ground loop, or running your RCAS beside some electrical interferance such as power wire or other electronics devices in your car that give off interferance. When you step on your ACC the alt noise travels through the wires and goes into your system. Make sure grounds are good and RCAS dont come into interferance with any wires, eg try and run them down the other side of the cara nd buy decent RCAs that are shielded and twisted pair.

Re: Whistling noise??? :(
Thanks loudsubz. The whistling noise has recently come back to haunt me.
I 'did' have the RCA running down the driver side w/ the power cable, but I recently moved the RCA to the passenger side. That didn't make one bit of difference. It's good quality RCA cable, not some cheap one.
Is the sound coming from the sub, or from all of the speakers in general? (I can't really tell). For the ground, are you referring to the deck's ground? The deck's ground should be fine, it's connected to where the stock deck's ground (to the frame behind the deck).
And why is it that when I turn off the Fan, then the whistling noise is gone? TIA.

quote:
Originally posted by loudsubz:
What the sound was, is called "Noise", and is caused by a.) Re: Whistling noise??? :(
deathtrap mx3, I actually DO have 2 small neons under the console. Could they be the problem? But I've had the neons in for a while, and there never was a whistling/whining like this before...

quote:
Originally posted by -=deathtrap-mx3=-:
it's probably not your speakers, if the hu is off. do you have any-aftermarket lights, etc?

Does the whine increase frequency when the accelerator is depressed? If not, then it's not a ground loop. If so, the reason it comes on when your vents are on, is because it puts more strain on the alternator forcing it to turn faster. I have a ground loop I have to find, and it gets worse when I have my heat on, altho not bad enough to think it was coming from it. I think my ground loop is from the RCA inputs on the back of the deck. Maybe your radio is bad er sumthin. I would take it to a professional install shop and have them take a look at it. It's hard to figure it out with out doing tests. Hope it helps.
