Re: Engine slows and stall when cold

Nope.
It's getting worse.
Now it stalls when warm.
Guess I'll take it to the shop.
Oh well - thanks for trying.

Re: Engine slows and stall when cold

Bingo!
I owe you a beer, Solo.
It starts up and runs just fine when cold after taping the intake hose.
Thanks for the help.

edit:
actually it's still happening.
it seemed ok for a couple starts then began happening again.
i'll try taping it some more but it's tough getting it underneath the hose ...

Re: Engine slows and stall when cold

Thanks for the help, Solo.
I taped what I could with 'Gorilla Tape' - supergood sticky tape.
I couldn't get right underneath it but got as much as I could.
Here's a link to pics showing a disconnected vacuum tube Solo pointed out and where it connects.

Engine slows and stall when cold

It runs ok warm, but when it's cold I have to rev it to keep it going.
I start it and it stalls - never did this before.
Anybody have any ideas on what the problem could be?
I just spent $800 fixing the clutch so I want to keep it going if possible.
I appreciate your input.
regards

Re: High pitched whistling, squeaking noise ...

Really?
I don't have tools though.
No ramps either.

The clutch is starting to go - I can hear it.
It's beginning to make noises it wasn't before.
How long will it be before it's completely shot - any way to guesstimate that?
I'm saving money for thye clutch delivering pizzas.
I'd hate for it to ...

Re: High pitched whistling, squeaking noise ...

Hmm - sounds a bit complicated for a newb like me.
I'd be tempted to tackle it but don't have much in the way of tools or even ramps.
However, I might be passing through Edmonton in the near future.
If I do, how about I take you up your offer to do it for $100 plus parts?
I'd help, of course, if you ...

Re: High pitched whistling, squeaking noise ...

Hmm.
Does this noise indicate imminent failure?
CanTire said no, but how long do you think I can keep driving it before it becomes a serious problem?
I do a lot of stop and go city driving - I use it for deliveries so lots of miles.

Re: High pitched whistling, squeaking noise ...

Thanks, Whythis - sounds like you nailed it.
I called Canadian Tire and asked for an estimate to replace the clutch plate - $800.
Ouch.
Does that sound right?

High pitched whistling, squeaking noise ...

... that stops when the clutch pedal is just slightly depressed.
Does this indicate a worn clutch?
I'm new to standards and have been tough on the clutch.
But i would have thought that if this noise was from slipping, it would be worse when the clutch is slightly depressed, not the other way around ...

Re: Repetitive, rapidly worsening rear wheel grating noise

That's ok, I'd laugh too.
Like I'm sure many did when I said I hooked up the battery wrong.
Go ahead - laugh.
Fill your boots.
I would've.

Re: Repetitive, rapidly worsening rear wheel grating noise

It was just loose lug nuts.
Good thing I caught it in time - could've killed me, some pedestrians and/or people in other vehicles.
She's running good now.
Superb little car.
Vroom!

Re: Battery connected with reversed polarity - now what?

yeah - that was my fear - diagnosing the entire electrical system, replacing part after expensive part and it still not working.

i spent all morning driving around like mario andretti.

Re: Battery connected with reversed polarity - now what?

Got it.
Have to go get a socket set now.
I hope its just the fuse but I doubt it.
I'll swap that out and report back.
Wish me luck ...
