The diagnostics box is under the hood - just behind the battery and above a big round drum (brake booster). It is a very small black box with the word "diagnostics" engraved on it - if you open it up the inside of the lid will have the pin names for the different pins in that box. If you connect ...

You can get engine/tranny codes yourself without the $60 computer.

For engine codes (check engine light)

For getting the tranny codes - similar procedure as above - but you would connect pin "TAT" (instead of "TEN") to "GND".

So I recently - as in last week - bought a 93 MX-3 with ATX, which is the first car I've ever owned.

The hold light started flashing right away, and does so intermittently (if I turn the car off and restart it that usually helps). I gather that means the tranny might be going, but I want to pull ...
