replaced pump, ignition coil, NOTHING IS WORKING 93 MX-3

Post by tmorgan10260 »

I am desperate. I have a 93 mx-3 . It was my husbands before he died and I jacked it up and fixed it up after he died. I LOVE this car. And alot of money has been put into it. It left me stranded a few days ago and I cannot seem to find the problem. My dad and I replaced the fuel pump, its not starting, then we replaced the igniton coil , still not working, and I dont have to tell you what its like trying to find a manual , let alone PARTS.. the car will turn over. But refuses to start. Once we replaced the fuel pump it acted like it wasnt getting spark. An ignition coil didnt work. Now he is off getting a ignition control module which as u know the distributor has to be torn apart to get to. I dont know if this is the answer though. Checked all the plugs and everything else. ANYONE have any idea to get this baby of mine running again? Thanx :crying:

Sorry for your loss

Is your car a 4 or 6 cylinder? Have you checked all the relays and fuses? has anything been done to the motor or is it stock?

Have you tried the cap and rotor on the distributor?

and are you getting no spark at all?

I would defiantly start there at the cap and rotor. sometime they will get so corroded they will not work, the rotor will some times brake as well.

I bet you'll wind up buying yourself a new distributor to fix it. The transistors that make up the cam position sensor(which dictates when to spark) are weak from factory. They are part of the ignitor module, so if you replace that (if you can find that part) then it may fix your problem.

Get a complete disty from the wreckers and see if that fixes the problem. If it does order a new one. Anyway keep us posted and if we can help we will.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

thanx for all the help.. of course when we went to get the ignition control module they had to order it.. so im playing the waiting game.. I think it would be better to just replace the whole distributor but my dad just ordered the control module, I tried the online manuals but cant find what I need :( .. thx for the info on the sensors. I am just getting disgusted at the whole thing, yes the car is old but it has so much sentimental value and I soaked thousands into it after he died. I know when the motor dies it will be impossible to find another. I can't even find headlight covers to replace the lenses without the dealer wanted $300 a piece for the whole headlight , dang! and no junk yards have mx 3's. The only reason its lasted this long is because I refuse to drive in in the winter. I am a little south of buffalo, ny and I dont have to tell you what winters are like on a car . If this doesnt work I just dont know. .thanks all ;)

Shame you aren't closer to me (i'm in Pittsburgh PA). I probably have lying around in my house a distributor for a SOHC 4cyl. I did an engine swap in mine and so have parts from the old motor lying around.
