The OEM CD player has stopped working, and I am not sure if I need to replace the HU or the CD player. When a CD is inserted, the mechanical operation of the player seems just fine. It reads the disc and begins to play it. However, no sound comes out. I checked all the connections and everything appears to be in order. The HU works fine otherwise.
Any advice as to which component is most likely faulty would be most appreciated.

It is going to be hard to find someone who can tell you how to test it on here. Meaning that a local stereo shop is going to be the next likely place to ask, but they will tell you you need both and try and sell you one so I would suggest skipping the head-ache and just buy a new CD player. However, that will leave you with a single DIN hole where the OEM radio went and thus you'll need to install a filler. You can either find a stock radio pocket from a parts car on here or buy a kit from the stereo place you buy the CD player from. I suggest the stock piece because it is going to look better. You could get the stereo shop to install the stock piece when they install the CD player. It is very easy to do once you have the stock CD player and radio out of the way. Good luck.
