SuperCharger with a BlowOff Valve

Post by Matt »

Is it possible to run a supercharger with a BOV. I was told that
u can get a BOV for the supercharger assuming its a standalone blower... not one thats connected directly to the throttle/carb
Make sense? Any ideas? Past experiences? Thoughts?

With a SC you want to use a recirculation valve for maximum boost response. They are commonly called bypass valves. Most roots or twin screw SCs have them as a standard component. Vortech for example does sell a pretty large bypass valve for their systems which could be used to recirulate or vent to atmosphere. Other Blow Off Valves will work but recirulation is highly recommended for max boost response. Many BLOVs can be equiped to recirculate in stead of just venting to atmosphere.

With a large recirculation setup you'll hear some blow off but not much. Depending on your EMS you can run external dump which would cause a slight amount of lag if you lifted to let it vent very long between shifts. It can be done on any SC system just as a turbo is done, slightly harder to do on roots/twin screw blowers but can be customized to work with them as well. With your stock EMS the AFR will bounce rich for a split second. With a speed/density system it won't bounce rich when venting as the map sensor will see the pressure fluctuation.
