having a problem..please help

Post by whitestevemx3 »

I recently bought a 92 MX3...and i paid 900 for it, b/c it had a bad tranny, so i bought a new tranny, and put it in....Now i go 2 drive it, and the thing wont move. Me and my buddies have discovered that its w/ the fuel relay system, but the fuel pump, is puming, and the fuel filter is filtering. I'm thinking sumthing is wrong w/ the injectors, or maybe the fuel pressure regulator?...I'm so confused, but if any1 could help me i would be extremly happy

im doing all of the work on this car and i am baffled, all i can think of now is just replacing things one by one until i fix it,so please help us out before i turn to that. we've been at this nearly a week on all of our free time, get me out of this mess.

the car starts, and when you touch teh gas it stalls, sometiems you can get it to run a little while but it wont run on its own mroe than five minutes.

thanks guys.

You guys are gonna want to kill yourselves if the prob is what I think it might be, except you'll be glad to catch it now if this is the cause.

Anyway, I once had the EXACT same set of symptoms (and conclusions) on a 90 MX6. After replacing the expensive VAF w/no improvement I was convinced it was the fuel pump or maybe fuel system relay. But nope, plenty of gas getting thru. Problem turned out to be hairline cracking of the stock rubber intake boot/hose that connects between the VAF and throttle body. The cracks were deep down between the ribs of the bottom side of the boot and not visible without removing the boot and flexing it. I did a quick patch with duct tape until I replaced it. Sounds so simple yet it's easy to see why it looks like a fuel supply issue cuz as soon as ya give it gas, those cracks allowed way to much unmetered air to be drawn in and the engine could not possibly draw enough fuel to match the leaking/inflowing air to the TB. Dunno if that helps but worth a look if ya haven't ruled this cause out already.

Ya to me it sounds like the Mass Air Flow senser!! Check to see if it is pluged in, or if possible try someone elses, because if you werent getting any gas to the engine it would not run at all....check the MAF to see if it conected, and look to make sure you have it going the right way! If it is not that i would think it would be the feul pressure regulator!! Good luck

Sounds then like all the basic visual check stuff has been covered. Yeah, try swapping to a borrowed VAF you know is good. If that doesn't nail the prob, need to pull the engine trouble codes and see what ya get. Til then, you'd be shooting in the dark, spending lots of time and possibly cash for parts you probably don't really need, and slowly losing your sanity and maybe even your very will to live...

pull the fuel line from the fuel rail...put it into some kind of container and turn the car over...if your pump is working quite a bit of gas should be comming out.
