Re: TB swap ?
well i got some good news. the tb gaskets from the 1.8L 95-98 protege and 1.6L 94/95 Mx-3 are the same part number from the dealership which means that tb should work on our car. now i have to find one and measure it to see if it is bigger and if it can be made even larger than ours. otherwise i'm going to bore out our throttle body.

Re: TB swap ?
Cool & thanks for the news. That's encouraging info & sounds like you may be on to something there. Be interesting to see if the stock Protege TB has the 5mm larger bore. I found an area JY (sort of) that has a 95 Protege TB but the place is pretty far away, the TB is still on the car & I don't see getting out there to ck. it out in person for awhile. Let us know whatcha discover & thanks for the legwork on this.
Re: TB swap ?
Has anyone found one of these protege TBs yet to see if there is a differance in size?

Re: TB swap ?
Even if the TB is 60 mm are the TPS and throttle cable linkages the same and able to be aesily fitted.

Re: TB swap ?
I just went to the garage and made some measurements...
I have a BP that I'm rebuilding to replace my 1.6L SOHC. It came from a 91 Escort. It was advertized as coming from a manual, but I had it shipped to me so I didn't see the car (which was gone at that point anyway).
The TB measures 60mm where the air hose connects, but only 55mm where it mounts to the IM. The IM measures 55mm, so what good would a 60mm TB do?
The numbers on top of the old TB are:
BP01 13 640
195900- 2490 11M16
The numbers on top of the new TB are:
BP07 13 640
195900- 2480 10K16
The TBs look remarkably similar as do the components mounted on them. The round thingy (technical term) where the throttle cable attaches is symmetrical on the new one (a cable could be attached to pull either way), but on the old one it is not.
I think the major point for me is that even though the new IM is substantially larger in size, it still only has a 55mm opening. I can't imagine that the old IM is anything but 55mm.
