Amp Issue
Hey guys I have had a problem wiring up my amp and new sub.
Parts
Rockford Fosgate P1S410 http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products ... &p_status=
150RMS 300Peek
Profile California 600sx Amp http://www.profileusa.com/manuals/CAAmps_Blue.pdf
RMS @4Ohm 2x150W.... RMS @2Ohm 2X225..... Bridged RMS @4Ohm 1x450W
Rockford Fosgate 8g wiring kit ( have used this kit with this amp and 2 8" speakers and it handled the load just fine )
I have a 92' Mx-3 RS and as far as i know im running a stock alternator. I am not sure if the bat is the right one though... it seems kind of big for the car, but either way. At normal volume i get a good sound from the sub ( ~15 on a sony head ) but once i start getting over that point (~20s ) the light on the top of the amp begins to dim. I am pretty sure that i am pulling enough power over the power cable and i think i did a good job of grounding the amp ( im taking 2 cents on where i should ground it ) but not sure why it starts to cut out. I am running the sub off one channel of the subs two channels (left side)... i have bridged it and i still get the same result. Either way i need helpppppp... thanks

Re: Amp Issue
Ground the amps as short as possible. Use heavy wires and look for "the big 3" post on this forum.

Re: Amp Issue
you need to beef up every ground cable on that car, and your power cable is too small,,4 guage will handle upto i beleive 400 watts, and your running 8 guage...

Re: Amp Issue
k I think i can make the Big 3 happen... although i have ran this amp with a 8g wire under a higher and it had no problem... i was told 8g can hold 1000w and anything higher you should run 4g... anything bigger... your systems to big ;-P... 4g cable for the Big 4 correct?... my ground is i think maybe a foot and a half cable... were did you ground your cable?

Re: Amp Issue
The lenght of the wire makes a big difference!!! also. The longer the wire runs the more resistance is introduced in the circuit, so the use heavier wire will be required to deliver all power the amp requires.

Re: Amp Issue
Well i think the 8g should be fine since i used a longer 8g wire on my terrible electric system in my olds achieva w/the same amp ( running 2 8" subs ). Does the Mx3 have grounding problems? Does the big 3 help a lot? I have wondered because the ground wire to the car feels a little wimpy lol.
http://www.lightav.com/car/amps/amplifi ... imacy.html Claims 8g can handle 750w... i need 150 rms... 300 peeks for the single sub

Re: Amp Issue
BAH this problem is annoying. I think I will try the Big 3 tomorrow or atleast run the grounds... Tired of buying cable and spending money ahha... Do you think the Big 3 will help with my problem.. assuming that the 8g cable will carry the peek 300w and that my ground is working well enough ( never heard of recommended grounds locations :-p ) This car has had some electric issues in the past and i think it dealt with the ground terminal setup on the battery. I also can't go through large/medium puddles because there is not cover on the bottom of the car... takes 15 minutes to dry out and start... only paid 925 for the car gets 33mpg so i can't complain lol
Re: Amp Issue
The big 3 may help a little bit - but a new battery and 90 amp GS alternator (or 110 amp millenia alternator) will help a lot more compared to the 65 amp stock alternator.

Re: Amp Issue
Just wondering will the higher output alt just mount up to the engine? same belt? same mount points? I have the B6-2E/ME... i think lol
Edit:
-Ok so who really thinks i just need to run a 4g wire to fix my problem?
-Who thinks its the Batt Alt combo and i need to do a Big 3 ( what will this help? i should be sucking juice for my amp from my Bat? so the system may drain but the amp shouldn't dim right? my head lights don't dim)
-Dead Amp?
-I am a retard and didn't ground well enough ( i grounded under the back left backrest seat mount.. i removed all the paint and got to bare metal... not i just have to watch for rust i guess )
-Sub is pulling to much in single channel mode ( high doubt this... its 150rms which is what my amp puts out )
-Bad sub?... i really really highly doubt this..
For Big 3 2 or 4g cable? i think im just going to go ahead an do a 2g... how did everyone do there alt power connecting? i haven't messed with it... should i just replace the alt ( heard thats a pain ) with a larger one?

Re: Amp Issue
Well if you are worried about wire costs - go to your nearest welding supply store and get some welding cable - they are cheap (I got 2awg for $1.10 per feet) and 4awg is rated upto 100 amps (for 75 feet).
Use the same cables to add some ground from the battery to the alternator, chassis and engine block.
It may not be a power issue at all - you might be using a speaker with the wrong ohms rating and the amp might be overloading trying to drive it...... Make sure to match the ohms ratings of the sub and the amp.....

Re: Amp Issue
id reccomend using a grinding wheel or something of that nature and grinding down a spot in the trunk and bolting your ground cable down, or just clean up w/e your grounding it to now really good till its just shiney metal, no paint...think of your cables as straws,,the thinner and longer they are, the harder it is for the amp to suck the juice....i remember when i was running my system in my old car i had a constant high pitched hum that i just couldnt for the life of me get rid of..i went back to the shop where i got my amp and they had to grind down a nice clean spot in the trunk and reposistion the ground cable..i was also using 4 guage with my 400 watt amp, which was reccomended by the people i baught my amp from..so i definatley think upgradin your amp kit to a bigger size will fix your problem..and yes the ground cables on the car are a joke
