B6 questions

Post by Boris »

Hey I still have my B6 DOHC sitting in my garage. I've been having a difficult time finding a BP, and I'm thinking it would be way cheaper to just buy a wiring harness and throw the 1.6 into my 92 mx3 and turbo that. I've already rebuilt the head on it, too.

First question: I searched and a 323 GTX mani will work right? Anyone know where I can get a good new one? I saw that Cjthor got a custom made one that looks AWESOME by JWMotorsports...how much would that cost?? If you don't wanna post it on the public forum PMs would work.

Second question: Fuel management. What piggy backs would plug+play with the 1.6L ECU?

Thanks in advance,
Boris

the turbo manifold from the 323 will fit. you can get them from MAZDA for like 160 or 260 something like that. or try Corksport, they seem to always have some for cheeper. i think CJ's was like 400 or something like that. and why do you need a wiring harness to put the DOHC in? is yours no good?

just utalize the 92 harness. all you will need, is a pro LX ECU(BP10 code), and a DOHC BP distributor, and your set. its all plug and play easy as pie. other than you wouldent be using the knock sensor but you dont need it. i have been using a 92 harness in my 95 for several years now. way easer to tune with. also you can go grab a N/A 2nd GEN RX7 VAF and you will get way better air flow.

Yeah I'll take your word, there's a lot of people who are telling me it's really hard to use the 92 harness and that it's not plug and play at all. I'm currently using the BP09 you sent me...that'll still work right?? I've been searching for the RX7 VAF with no luck too.

Josh how long were you driving on your F-series tranny with your turbo set up? Did it hold up?? That's the only thing I'm worried about right now...I figure that if I blow it up I could always just switch to the protege tranny with a B6, right?

Oh and do you have any of your old B6 performance, or turbo parts left?

I broke a diff in the stock f-series trans with a BP setup and i was not even boosted. i was making 125whp on the stock setup. the f=series will not hold up to much abuse. after 46 pass down the track it finally gave up. chewed the teeth off the diff. if ur easy on the trans it will hold abuse it and it will take a crap on u. i broke a stock miata diff on a boosted 1.6 miata it was only at 5psi. at least i got a 13.6@98 before i broke it. oh well at least the diff getting upgraded.

My manifold is awesome and I love it. I think it was around 450 or so...i really dont recall. I blew up the diff on mine about 2500 miles after I turbo'd the car. Im now running a protege tranny and loving it.
If youre thinking about swapping harnesses why not go standalone? I was running an apexi afc for a while and it seemed to work fine. I think I screwd up when I got a RRFPR as well. I still have my afc and will be selling it as I just got a microtech standalone.

I would love to go standalone, I just don't wanna pay for it.

I believe I found a protege tranny, so I think my new plan is turbo B6 w/ the protege trans, and HOPEFULLY 1.6L miata clutch and flywheel as long as they fit (which they should, limegreen checked).

if you're selling your apexi afc PM me with a price?

U really should go standalone u can do so much more power run ur engine more effenicet that u can with a stock harness and some cheap @$$ piggyback like e-manage or apexi afc what ever out there.

but hey don't take my word for it when the engine craps out u get for what u pay for. if u go the cheap way u'll spend twic e as much as if u had done it the right way.

i know money can be tight it took my 9 months to find and save up for a TEC II saving was no problem for me finding one was the problem but i found one and have one now. there are other standalone beside a TEC II. cheapest one is MS-II.
