BP turbo options?

Post by Kuromu »

I am starting to research turbo setups for my BP and have a couple questions.

One, are there any recommended manifold/turbo setups? I have seen some manifold floating around ebay that fit Garrett turbos.

Two, will installing a third party turbo require an ECU swap again or is there a standalone or piggyback that will work?

Well for the BP there are always recommended stuff. Question is how much do you know about Turbo's? If you aren't 100% awesome with them then I would first start out with the Stock BPT Turbo and Manifold. Easiest setup and with that all you have to do is get the GTX JSpec ECU and you are set. Or you can do like me and get a GTX BPT Manifold, then get a Hybrid Stock Turbo (Stock turbo is a VJ20 and I have it hybrided with a VF10, a suby turbo).

Another option which I personally would like to see is someone get one of the Flipped over Miata Turbo Manifolds make for the BP and put a T3 Super 60 on it.

And there is really no ECU that will work for a 3rd party turbo, just the Stock BPT turbo. There are however Haltek, Megasquirt, SAFC II (What I have), Greddy Emanage (What I use to have and wished I had kept), and then there is also another AFC that is getting released from up in Vancouver Canada made by a member on Clubprotege.com

will the miata manifold fit? I was thinking of doing that because I have a T3/T4 turbo and was going to get a manifold made, but if they fit, I am going to get one of those.

Over the past month I have been seeing a nice turbo header floating around ebay. Not sure if it is the same one that keeps getting relisted or if it is someone that makes/resells them. They are made for the T3/T4 turbo.

I don't see it up there now but I expect to see another listing any time now.

Yea, that manifold your talking about is the ss autochrome one. I am using this manifold with a t3. It looks awesome and the design on the manifold is great. My friends 323 is making 300whp with the same manifold and no signs of cracking whatsoever. I got he flange flipped and it works fine now. You can run a Apexi SAFC which is what i'm using. Just make sure you get the automatic bp throttle body and tps so that you get the 4 wire one and can tune it for every bit of throttle. Other than that, you can just do the basic oil lines, etc since the bolts are in the front of the block. I am almost finished with my setup, just waiting on the fuel pump. I should be upgrading to a super 60 rather soon. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Hey Bugs, where did you tap your oil pan for your return line?

Ya they Fit. A guy by the Name of Marlon had one made and it seemed to fit fine. I don't know about the OBX one that is floating around Ebay, He had one specially made. I would do a search and find his thread.
